Product Description
The Younson root puncture resistant waterproof membrane uses long-fiber polyester felt as the reinforcement layer. Both surfaces are coated with SBS-modified bitumen containing imported chemical root inhibitors and covered with isolation materials. This membrane provides excellent waterproofing and root resistance, effectively preventing plant roots from penetrating the waterproof layer.
Layer Structure:

Product Features
- Dual function: prevents plant root penetration while providing excellent waterproofing; maintains long-term waterproof performance
- High tensile strength and elongation; adapts to substrate shrinkage and cracking
- Forms a high-strength waterproof layer capable of withstanding water pressure
- Resistant to puncture, tearing, fatigue, corrosion, mold, and weathering
- Excellent high and low temperature performance; suitable for both hot and cold regions
- Hot-melt construction; easy installation with durable seams
Root Resistance Mechanism
Root Inhibitor: Imported chemical root inhibitor
Characteristics:
- Practically insoluble in water; does not leach
- Good processability; low volatility ensures no loss of active ingredients during production
- High flash point ensures processing safety
When plant roots contact the bitumen layer containing the chemical root inhibitor, the root tips undergo keratinization and stop growing downward, without damaging existing roots. This prevents penetration while allowing normal plant growth.
Executive Standards
- GB 18242-2008 Elastomer Modified Bitumen Waterproof Membranes
- JC/T 35468-2017 Root Puncture Resistant Waterproof Membranes for Green Roofs
- Can also comply with international standards upon request
Construction Method
Hot-melt application process:
- Substrate preparation
- Additional layer installation
- Hot-melt main surface application
- Exhaust and compaction
- Water test
- Protective layer installation
Precautions:
- Do not install during rain, snow, or wind ≥ level 5
- Construction temperature should not be below 0°C
- Heating must be uniform across the roll width
- Maintain proper distance between flame nozzle and membrane surface; membrane should melt to a glossy black surface without overheating
Transportation and Storage
- Different types and specifications should be stored separately; do not mix
- Avoid direct sunlight and rain; ensure ventilation
- Storage temperature ≤ 50°C; store upright in single layers, max. two layers during transport
- Prevent tilting or lateral pressure; cover with tarpaulin if necessary
Shelf life under normal storage and transport conditions: 1 year from production date
